Intel Sweden organized overclocking event in Kista 5th - 7th of October. Overclockers from all over the Scandinavia were invited to test how far we can push their latest CPUs with extreme-cooling.
Thomas Melzer (on left) was our host from Intel Sweden during the weekend
Intel had movies and games available in their lounge room but there was no time for those during the weekend.
Intel’s labs ready for some serious benchmarking
Me and Intel’s upcoming 45 nm quadcore Core 2 Extreme QX9650 microprocessor (Yorkfield).
Socket 775 CPU from week 34 in detail
Robert (crotale) cutting insulation for Asus Maximus Formula motherboard (X38).
LN2 container (Kingpin’s Dragon pot) mounted on CPU
A couple hundred liters of liquid nitrogen (-196 °C) reserved for the weekend.
Pouring the LN2
First we tested the limits of the CPU and ran Radeon HD 2900 XT in CrossFire configuration with stock cooling (880/990 MHz). We were able to run 3DMark06 @ 5,45 GHz.
Next day we mounted GPU containers designed and manufactured by Ilkkahy to graphics cards.
System ready for some serious benchmarking
Cooling down the CPU and graphics cards
CPU container at -155 °C
GPU containers at -70 °C. Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire was working @ 1135/970 MHz
Carefully pouring the LN2 and keeping an eye on temperatures with Robert (crotale from Sweden / Nordichardware).
Running 3DMark06, once again.
Last couple of seconds before the end result shows up. Nosfer@tu from OCTeamDenmark couldn’t believe his eyes so he filmed everything to be sure that the numbers are true.
Great score in 3DMark06! 28 054. Me, Robert and Andreas from Nordichardware celebrating.
Futuremark ORB, 3DMark06 Project Details
Heating the CPU container after the tests.
Öjvind from Sweclockers running 3DMark06 @ 4,6 GHz with air cooling.
Nosferatu happily heating up his system.
Thanks to Intel Sweden!
